A new industry standard, ASTM F2897-11a, has provided the industry with a method to allow manufacturers to use barcoding to lable assets with important attribute information such as manufacturer, lot number, material type and component type. As manufacturers begin to implement labeling in compliance with ASTM F2897-11a, operators will need technology to realize the benefits of barcode scanning and asset lifecycle tracking.
