GPS Leak Surveying

UPDATE: VeroTrack has been available for two years now and is being deployed at several companies to reduce the costs and improve the quality of leak survey documentation.

VeroTrack is now integrated with Heath's RMLD, Bascom Turner's Gas Rover, and Sensit's PMD.

GTI has recently completed a project to integrate GPS and digital data capture into routine leak surveying and pinpointing operations.  In partnership with InMaps (now Ubisense), a software application - now called VeroTrack™ Automated Survey Tracking (AST) - was developed that automates the entire leak surveying process by:
  • Eliminating the need for highlighting paper maps by tracking routes with GPS
  • Eliminating the need for paper leak forms by creating electronic forms
  • Reducing manual data entry by auto-populating leak readings
  • Eliminating the need for manual data transfer in the office
  • Enhancing worker productivity and survey completion monitoring
In addition to improving efficiency, VeroTrack AST also reduces risk by allowing internal or external inspectors to verify that routes were surveyed completely.

VeroTrack AST runs on a Trimble Juno™ handheld unit that has 3-5 meters of GPS accuracy.  An operator's facilities are loaded onto VeroTrack AST and displayed on the Juno's screen allowing crews to monitor their survey progress in the field.

Heath Consultants and Bascom Turner Instruments are also partners in this research.  Both companies have gas detectors that are integrated with VeroTrack AST and have the ability to directly send leak readings to the handheld GPS device allowing VeroTrack AST to auto-populate fields in the electronic leak form.
